College History
Gorakshanath Government Sanskrit College, Nahan is one of the prestigious educational institutions of entire Himachal Pradesh for Sanskrit studies. Initially, it was established as Gorakshanath Sanskrit College in the year 1940 by Rajguru Shri Mautiknath ji in the premises of the famous Kalisthan Temple in Sirmour district headquarters Nahan, Himachal Pradesh for the study of Devvani Sanskrit. Later it was acquired by the Government of Himachal Pradesh as Government Sanskrit College for the purpose of propagation and promotion of Sanskrit in 1965.
Our Objectives
The objectives for which the College is established are: -
- To preserve Shastraic tradition.
- To undertake interpretation of the Shastras .
- To establish their relevance to the problems in the modern context .
- To provide means for intensive training in modern as well as Shastraic lore for teachers.
- To achieve excellence in these disciplines so that the College has a distinctive character of its own.
- Impart instruction in traditional Sanskrit lore with special attention to highly specialized branches.
- Provide means for education in modern disciplines needed for meaningful interpretation of original Sanskrit texts including technical literature in Sanskrit.
- Promote interaction between modern and traditional scholars for mutual enrichment.
- Undertake all such activities incidental, necessary or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the objectives of the college.
